EW's List of New Classic Books

Entertainment Weekly just posted The New Classics: Books, a list of the 100 best reads since 1986. My hit rate was depressingly low. My problem: I read too much non-fiction. (I've read 100 percent of the non-fiction work on the list). I mentioned this to my sister, and she suggested we make our own best books lists. Long occupying my top slot: And the Band Played On (86 on EW's list). My top 10 would also almost certainly include The Right Stuff (too old for EW's list), Gay Talese's Unto The Sons, and Simon Singh's Big Bang.

So what is your list of 18 books? That actually sounds kind of low to me. Did you forget to count all the books about Damascus steel you've read?
