Dante updated his blog. Lots a new pictures.
The best movie rented this year: King Of Kong: A Fist Full of Quarters. Two competitive classic arcade players face off for the world-record high score at Donkey Kong, the hardest arcade game ever made. Failure, success, mortality, humanity, obsession, love, loss, heartbrake, triumph -- it's like a Johnny Cash song.
Great line:
"When I was young, I wanted to be the guy that the girls swarmed around, saying things like 'hey, I hear you're pretty good at centipede.'"
The things mari gets to see while I'm at work all day.

Entertainment Weekly just posted The New Classics: Books, a list of the 100 best reads since 1986. My hit rate was depressingly low. My problem: I read too much non-fiction. (I've read 100 percent of the non-fiction work on the list). I mentioned this to my sister, and she suggested we make our own best books lists. Long occupying my top slot: And the Band Played On (86 on EW's list). My top 10 would also almost certainly include The Right Stuff (too old for EW's list), Gay Talese's Unto The Sons, and Simon Singh's Big Bang.

I just finished my friend Brendan I Koerner's new book Now The Hell Will Start. It's the story of private Herman Perry's flight from justice in the Burmese jungle during WWII. It's an awesome piece of reporting and storytelling. Think of it as the history lesson you never knew you wanted, because who could ever imagine crap like that happened. Check it out.

How have I missed R. Kelly for so long?
R. Kelly tells it really real in Real Talk (Seriously, watch the whole thing. No, he isn't kidding.)
Josh Levin's wonderful dispatches from the R. Kelly trial (an entirely new form of court reporting):
First Batch
Second Batch
R. Kelly's masterpiece Trapped in a Closet (well, just parts 1-5. There's like 23 parts.)
Rage on your sleazy sexasaurus, you!
Sweet merciful crap! This is the best AP story ever: Everything Seemingly is Spinning Out of Control.
